Pogba, 32, who plays for Monaco in the French League, has joined Saudi Arabian team Al Haboob, which competes in the Gulf region, as an ambassador and shareholder.

Stating that camel racing caught his interest when he started to spend more time in the Middle East in recent years, Pogba said: "I started to research this subject thoroughly. The more I learned, the more interesting it became. There is history, family ties, competition, pride behind this sport."

Noting that the region has become an important center of global sports with investments, the French star said camel racing deserves to be a part of it.

Camel racing has a long history in the Arabian Peninsula, where champion camels can fetch more than $5 million. Last year, the prize pool for the 16-race Al Ula Cup, which offers the biggest prize money in the sport, was $6.4 million.

Pogba, who won the 2018 World Cup with France, spent 18 months out of action due to a doping ban he received while playing for Juventus.

The former Juventus and Manchester United star, who signed a two-year contract with Monaco in June, made his debut against Rennes last month.
