However, this new chapter in the Persian Gulf Pro League has not turned out as expected. Aurier's stats on the pitch were rather poor, with only 4 appearances (360 minutes) in the league for Persepolis. Unable to contribute to the scoring, he failed to be a key figure in the defense of the Tehran giants. As of now, Persepolis are currently second in the league behind Sepahan.
Besides his poor performance on the pitch, Aurier's Iranian adventure has been marked by health problems. After being out of action for a long time due to a hepatitis B infection, it was even debated whether he would be able to return to his normal training pace.
According to Tasnim News Agency, one of Iran's reliable news agencies; Persepolis management decided to end this partnership early. The club has started the legal process to terminate the contract worth around 537 thousand Euros and part ways with the player in the winter transfer window. The management believes that the investment has not paid off and the team needs different options for the second half of the season.
