In July 2025, the manager moved to Al-Nassr. While his contract runs until 2026, his recent remarks have caused a major stir.
The Controversial Statements
Following the Al-Hilal match, the Portuguese tactician claimed:
"Al-Hilal players pressure the referee to get decisions in their favor. They are an experienced team at managing matches. I built this team, and they worked with me for nearly two years, so I know this very well. Al-Nassr does not possess the political influence that Al-Hilal has."
Al-Hilal Takes Action
In response to these remarks, Al-Hilal issued an official statement announcing they have taken action:
"Saudi football has become a sport that attracts stars and fans from all over the world, reaching a level capable of competing in major international competitions. These statements are not aligned with the noble goals of sport at the FIFA level. One of the principles of the statutes is to ensure the neutrality of football, the preservation of its integrity, and the unity of competition. Al-Hilal Club believes that the relevant sports authorities will take appropriate measures against these statements, which unfairly provoke public opinion and harm the Saudi sports project. We announce that we are in the process of filing an official complaint with the relevant authorities."
