Zeynep Sönmez advances to 2nd round at the US Open

National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez defeated her US rival Katie Volynets 2-0 in the first round of the US Open Grand Slam Tennis Tournament and advanced to the next round.

Sönmez, ranked 81st in the women's world rankings, took the first set 6-3 and the second set 6-4 against her opponent, who rose to the main table from the qualifiers and ranked 109th in the classification.

Sönmez is competing in the US Open main table for the first time in her career.
