Sneijder had a coffee with Geelen last month and according to him, the meeting was very positive. According to the agreement, Ajax would first appoint a sporting director and then return to Sneijder, the "player of the record". With Jordi Cruyff as the new director of football of the Amsterdam club, this condition has been fulfilled.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport on Thursday, Sneijder said: "Now we will have follow-up talks. It was made clear that these talks will take place in late January or early February, at least after the transfer window closes. These talks will definitely take place and I will wait calmly. I'm in a good mood here tonight; I won't suddenly be called somewhere."
The meeting with Geelen has at least given Sneijder enough perspective to talk to the new director of football. However, it remains to be seen what role Sneijder will play. Speaking to host Wytse van der Goot, Sneijder said: "You just have to wait. We have all the time in the world, right?"
