Usyk fires back as Dubois cheating accusations ignite rematch tensions

Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has dismissed Daniel Dubois's persistent cheating allegations as mere "mind games" ahead of their highly anticipated rematch at Wembley Stadium. Usyk, confident and seemingly unbothered, stated he enjoys such pre-fight tactics, asserting his dominance as "the king of the division."

Usyk fires back as Dubois cheating accusations ignite rematch tensions

The simmering tension between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois has reached a boiling point as the two heavyweights prepare to clash for the undisputed world titles this weekend at Wembley Stadium. The bad blood, stemming from their controversial first encounter in 2023, has been reignited by Dubois and his team's unwavering accusations of cheating against Usyk.

Their initial bout concluded with significant controversy after Dubois floored Usyk with a shot that was ultimately ruled an illegal low blow. While the debate over the legality of the punch continues to rage within the boxing community, Dubois and his trainer, Don Charles, have vehemently claimed that Usyk deliberately exploited the situation, taking extra time to recover to prevent a potential knockdown count.

These accusations have created a deep rift between the two fighters, leading to heated exchanges, including a clash during their appearance at talkSPORT towers in April. In a fresh interview with talkSPORT, Usyk brushed off the allegations, suggesting they are nothing more than a calculated ploy to unnerve him before the crucial rematch.

'It doesn't matter, I'm not a cheater'

"No, they didn't get under my skin," Usyk clarified. "It doesn't matter, I'm not a cheater. I think it is just pre-fight mind games from his team. But I love to play the mind games, I also like playing football, Counter-Strike and pre-fight games. But it is my rules, I'm the king of the division. I think it's possible to get under my skin, but only me knows how."

Usyk remained largely unfazed by Charles's fiery rant at the launch press conference, though it did draw a response from members of his team. Despite an earlier appeal being rejected, Dubois now has a shot at redemption and a chance to etch his name into the history books.

The animosity has escalated since the rematch was confirmed, with Dubois physically pushing Usyk during one confrontation and screaming in his rival's face at a recent media day, only for Usyk to remain motionless.

As the favorite, Usyk enters the fight with the weight of expectation on his shoulders. However, Dubois has shown significant improvement since their first meeting, notably securing a career-best knockout victory over Anthony Joshua last September.

Usyk, ever prepared for all scenarios, anticipates stopping Dubois before the final bell. "Daniel is a young guy, he is dangerous every time because he has a big punch and good boxing skills," Usyk stated. "I have prepared well for this fight. I prepare every time for 12 rounds. With my coach and team I always do, but if I have a chance I will do it. Yes of course I believe I will do it."
