The sprint race before the 19th race of the season was held at the 5.513-kilometer American Circuit in Austin, the capital of the US state of Texas.
Verstappen saw the checkered flag in first place with a time of 37 minutes 58.229 seconds and scored 8 points.
Great Britain's George Russell of the Mercedes team was second, 0.395 seconds behind Verstappen, and Carlos Sainz of the Williams team was third, 0.791 seconds behind the leader.
Qualifying will start at 00:00 tomorrow and the race will start at 22:00 the same day.
