Robin van Persie on Fenerbahce: 'They have the same problem as us'

Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie made some remarkable remarks before the Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round match against Fenerbahce.

Referring to the transfer activities, van Persie said, "It goes without saying that we are looking for a player for the left-back position. If we are successful, our squad will be largely complete. I am very happy with the players we have signed so far; I want to emphasize that. Feyenoord are very determined compared to previous years."

Referring to their defensive deficiencies, Robin van Persie said, "Especially due to Thomas Beelen's injury, it is a priority to sign a stopper who can play in the left-back position. In principle, Watanabe can also play at left-back. However, I see him primarily as a stopper who plays as a right-back, so we are focusing on a stopper who plays as a left-back."

'FENERBAHCE IS JUST LIKE US'

Finally, van Persie commented on Fenerbahce's situation : "We have to adjust our approach to the Fenerbahce games. Fenerbahce are probably facing the same challenge. At this stage of the season, none of the clubs have a fully prepared squad."

The Dutch coach, who also played for Fenerbahce as a footballer, will face Fenerbahce for the first time as a manager.
