The move, which Slot described as "rare in football", shows the club's commitment to supporting Jota's wife and children during this difficult time.

With two years left on Jota's contract, some reports in Portugal suggested that FSG would pay the full value of the contract. This was confirmed by the coach in an emotional interview with TNT Sports.

Slot said: "The way FSG handled this situation, the way they handed over all the contract money to his wife and children, is admirable. Maybe people think this is normal, but it's not normal in football."

The Dutch manager also spoke of the extraordinary response from Liverpool fans and players in the wake of the tragedy. "The pain of the city is what makes working at this club special. The attitude of the fans, the flowers, all the memorials. I'm still deeply moved when I think about it," he added.

Slot also praised the team's attitude during Jota's funeral and emphasized the difficulty of returning to training at such a difficult moment: "Sometimes I think: 'What must his wife and children be feeling right now?' Because it's so heavy. Our lives go on."
