Towards the end of the match, punches were thrown as the two stars got to their feet, and it was Gunther who broke it up with a powerbomb. He followed with a Frog Splash, Cena avoided the submission, but Gunther didn't stop and hit the Sleeper Hold once again. Cena managed to get up a few times, but Gunther kept pulling him back. Just as Cena broke free, Gunther locked in the lock again.

Cena once again broke free and went for the AA (Attitude Adjustment), but the button didn't work and was immediately followed by another submission hold. The crowd chanted "don't give up" as Cena began to faint. The referee checked Cena's hand and Cena managed to keep his hand in the air before the three count.

However, Gunther continued to hold on to the lock. Cena finally tapped out and Gunther surprised the crowd by winning.

With this result, Cena's wrestling career was over. The Massachusetts-born wrestler made his WWE debut in June 2002 and had a historic 23-year run with the company. He has been the face of wrestling for almost two decades, with a ton of great moments and championship reigns and many major feuds.

At Money in the Bank 2024, Cena announced that 2025 would be his last year of in-ring competition, kicking off a farewell tour that would take place around the world and culminate at the Capital One Arena in the nation's capital.

A tournament was held to determine who would get the opportunity to be Cena's final opponent, with Gunther defeating LA Knight in the final to earn the right to face the future WWE Hall of Fame member.

As his wrestling career came to an end, Cena finished his career as a 17-time WWE Champion and a Grand Slam Champion (Intercontinental, United States and Tag Team Championship reigns), the most championships in the company's history. He also won the 2012 Money in the Bank match and the Royal Rumble match twice in 2008 and 2013.

This may not have been Cena's last appearance in WWE, but it was his last appearance as a wrestler.
