Ironically, Marc Guehi – the defender Slot tried but failed to sign on deadline day this summer – once again delivered a flawless performance for Palace. Without Palace’s wastefulness and a bit of luck, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Liverpool could have been trailing by a much bigger margin at halftime in South East London."

Following the Crystal Palace defeat, Liverpool fans shared their thoughts ahead of Tuesday’s away match against Galatasaray. One English supporter posted on social media: "If you play like this away to Galatasaray, you’ll find yourself in a truly humiliating situation. How do you fix this in just two days? This doesn’t look like a temporary setback after a bad day at work or a minor hiccup. This was an absolute disaster! Defensively, it was a dreadful performance."
