Galatasaray had initially set aside a budget of around €20 million for a loan-to-buy deal for Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, the club’s plans were disrupted when the Italian goalkeeper’s move to Manchester City was finalized.

In a further blow, Galatasaray's backup plan, Manchester City's Ederson, was snatched up by their archrivals, Fenerbahçe. The Turkish club reportedly beat Galatasaray to the Brazilian goalkeeper, who was available for a fee of around €15 million.
