Galatasaray targeting Ruben Neves for January transfer window

The Turkish giants have long been monitoring options for the No. 6 role, holding talks with players such as Frank Anguissa and Raphaël Onyedika in recent weeks. However, new reports suggest that Galatasaray have now turned their attention to Saudi Arabia, with Ruben Neves emerging as their latest target.

According to claims from the Portuguese media, the Lions have initiated contact with the Al Hilal midfielder. Despite continuing his career in Saudi Arabia, Neves remains an important part of the Portugal national team, recently playing the full 90 minutes in their match against Ireland.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, whose contract with Al Hilal expires at the end of the season, is reportedly eager to leave Saudi Arabia and return to European football. Several clubs from Europe are said to be following his situation closely.

Neves has enjoyed a strong campaign so far, scoring three goals in eight matches for Al Hilal—an impressive return for a player in the holding midfield role. Known for his precision from set pieces, the Portuguese star has maintained excellent form despite playing outside Europe’s top leagues.

After rising through Porto’s academy and making his name in Portugal, Neves moved to the Premier League in 2017, joining Wolverhampton Wanderers for around €18 million. Over six seasons with Wolves, he became one of the league’s most consistent midfielders before completing a high-profile €55 million switch to Al Hilal in the summer of 2023.

Portuguese reporters claim Neves plans to return to Europe once his contract ends, ideally joining a Champions League-level club—a profile that makes Galatasaray an appealing destination. The Istanbul club’s ambition and competitive environment are believed to attract the experienced midfielder.
