"He was special. Whenever he said something on the field or in the locker room, you knew it was important. He was a leader, and whatever he demanded, we had to do.
The winning culture at Manchester United was built by him. He was the boss of the club. A wonderful man who never wanted or liked to lose. He passed this on to us, ensuring we gave our best every game.
After the first half, he'd yell at some players in the locker room if he didn't think they were performing at their best. It happened to me a couple of times, and it was terrifying. He'd come right up to me and yell, "Come on! You have to do more! You're a nobody."
"He was very demanding and understood the best qualities of everyone in our team," said the former Manchester United and Portugal midfielder .
