Mexican prosecutors have made a serious accusation, alleging that the 39-year-old acted as a henchman for the powerful Sinaloa cartel, which the US government designated a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year.

According to Mexico’s national arrest registry, Chavez Jr. was detained at a checkpoint in the border city of Nogales on Tuesday morning and has since been transferred to a federal prison in Sonora's capital of Hermosillo, where he awaits charges.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed his deportation during a daily news conference, stating that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest on charges of arms trafficking and organized crime. She added that prosecutors were actively working on the case. The Mexican attorney general's office has declined to comment on the matter.
