Following his release from the hospital, the 38-year-old was transported to Marion County Jail for processing—a condition set by a judge—where his fingerprints were taken and a booking photo was recorded before his official release.

"Sorry I can't answer all your questions," Sanchez briefly told a reporter upon his release, adding that his recovery would be "a long process."

Details of the incident and arrest

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) initially released a statement confirming they were investigating a "physical disturbance" between two adult males, one of whom sustained lacerations and the other, Sanchez, had injuries "consistent with stab wounds."

The police later issued a second, more detailed statement confirming that while Sanchez remained hospitalized, he had been formally arrested on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.

Fox Sports acknowledged the incident, stating that Sanchez was "injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition," while requesting privacy for the family. His former team, the New York Jets, where Sanchez was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, also sent well wishes via social media.

Sanchez, who guided the Jets to two consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances and threw for over 15,000 yards across a 10-year NFL career, retired in 2019 and began his broadcasting career, eventually joining Fox Sports in 2021.
