It was stated that two football player transfers stood out at the center of the allegations of financial irregularities that led to the trial of De Laurentiis. These transfers were Greek defender Kostas Manolas, whom Napoli bought from Roma in 2019, and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, whom Napoli transferred from French club Lille in 2020.

In its request for a trial in February, the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office had included allegations that the transfers in question may have been fictitious capital gains during the processing of the club's financial statements.
