Comparing the incident to Caicedo's red card in the Chelsea-Arsenal match, ESPN used footage of both incidents, stating: ‘Moises Caicedo was shown a red card for his challenge on Mikel Merino in the Chelsea-Arsenal match. Milan Skriniar did not receive a foul for his challenge on Gabriel Sara in the Fenerbahce-Galatasaray match.’

Skriniar's intervention against Sara was also discussed on the Trio programme broadcast by the broadcaster. Former referees made the following comment regarding ESPN's comparison of the two positions:
