Sinner and Swiatek advance to the second round at the US Open
The excitement continues to build at the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season. Top-seeded men's singles player Jannik Sinner and second-seeded women's singles player Iga Swiatek made a strong start to the tournament, comfortably winning their first-round matches.

The favorites competing for the championship at the US Open, held at the Flushing Meadows tennis center in New York, delivered the expected performance on the opening days of the tournament. Sinner begins his title defense Last year's champion and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated Czech player Vit Kopriva without dropping a set. Controlling the match from the start, Sinner gave his opponent no chance with his powerful serves and effective forehands. Sinner completed the match with sets of 6-1, 6-1, and 6-2 to advance to the second round. This victory showed how fit Sinner is after withdrawing from the Cincinnati Masters final last week due to illness. The Italian tennis player is steadily progressing toward defending her title. Swiatek's dominant performance against her opponent Iga Swiatek, the world No. 2 and 2022 US Open champion, also stormed into the tournament. Facing Colombian Emiliana Arango, Swiatek wrapped up the match in just one hour with set scores of 6-1 and 6-2. The Polish star, arriving in New York with great confidence after her Wimbledon and Cincinnati Masters victories, only lost her first serve three times throughout the match.
