During the match, Eto'o, angered by the referee's decisions, gestured aggressively towards his Moroccan counterparts and officials in the protocol (including the CAF President) for about 30 seconds. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) said Eto'o "violated the principles and values of sport".
The Cameroon Football Association said the decision was unfair and expressed their "unwavering support" for their president.
Eto'o had attracted attention with his war of words with coach Marc Brys before the tournament. Eto'o tried to dismiss Brys and replace him with David Pagou, and in the process, both coaches announced separate squad lists. Brys, who was suspended from the team, accused Eto'o of deliberately leaving out leading players like Aboubakar and world-class goalkeepers who opposed him.
