In a statement released by the club, it was announced that the 35-year-old Faried, who once played in the American Basketball League (NBA), signed a two-month contract.

Faried was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2011 NBA draft. In addition to the Nuggets, Faried played for the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets in the NBA, and later played in China, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Italy and most recently Taiwan.

Faried, who won the 2014 FIBA World Cup championship with the US National Team, averaged 11.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in his regular season career in the NBA.

Panathinaikos added Faried, who previously played in Europe for CSKA Moscow, to its center rotation in a period when Ömer Faruk Yurtseven, Mathias Lessort and Richaun Holmes were injured.
