Newcastle United has successfully landed its first summer signing, confirming the arrival of 18-year-old Spanish attacker Antonio Cordero on a free transfer. The move, initially revealed by SunSport in January, sees the prodigious talent join the Magpies on July 1st upon the expiry of his contract with Malaga, though he is expected to spend his inaugural season out on loan for further development.

The acquisition is a significant coup for Eddie Howe's side, as Cordero opted to pen a five-year deal with Newcastle despite having held talks with European giants Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Porto. Cordero expressed his ambition, stating, "It's truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure. I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it. It's a big step, and that's one of the reasons I'm here."

Cordero recently made headlines by scoring his first senior goal for Malaga in June 2024, netting a last-gasp equalizer in a play-off final second leg that helped fire his club back into the Segunda Division.

Upon confirmation of the signing, Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell highlighted the club's delight: "Antonio is an exciting talent. We’re delighted to bring him to Newcastle United amidst interest in Spain and across Europe. He has lots of potential, and the next phase of his development will be for the club to select a loan move that will challenge him and build on his experiences.”
