Kylian Mbappe: 'I am not Cristiano Ronaldo'

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé spoke exclusively to Marca after winning the Golden Boot Award.

"I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF THIS SINCE I WAS A LITTLE BOY"Question: Did you dream of winning the Golden Boot since you were a child? Do you see it as the first of many awards you have won?

Mbappé: "Of course. Since I was a little boy, I dreamed of scoring goals, and I dreamed of doing it over and over again. Every child looks at the goal when they play soccer and they want to score. This award means a lot to me and I'm very proud. But everyone knows that the most important thing is the success of the team. I hope to win another one in the future, but my priority is always the league championship. If I got this award for my goals in the league, I want to continue this year with the same goal. If I become champion in the league and win another Golden Boot, I will be much happier than I am today."

"I'M A STRIKER WHO CAN SCORE FROM ANYWHERE"Question: You play as a number 10 for Real Madrid and France, and you've had a great goal scoring streak this season. Would you describe yourself more as a number 10 or a number 9?

Mbappé: "I said it on the presentation day: It doesn't matter to me what my position is. I'm a striker who can play in several different roles, who can score goals from all areas. I only have my eye on goal. How I am defined is someone else's business. The best thing is what my president or coach says about me. My only goal is to do my job in the best way possible, wherever the manager puts me."

"YOU HAVE TO CHANGE"Question: What are the differences between Kylian, the World Cup winner, and Kylian, the current Golden Boot winner, as a footballer and as a person?

Mbappé: "I hope I have changed, because that is the natural development of a footballer. If I stayed the same as I was seven years ago, it would be a problem. Everything I've achieved, the mistakes I've made. They all made me the player and the person I am today. Change is good as long as it is for the better. I'm not the same anymore."

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PSG AND REAL MADRIDQuestion: What is the biggest difference between PSG and Real Madrid?

Mbappé: "They are completely different clubs. PSG is a much younger project, while Real Madrid has a centuries-old history and a long tradition. Even their culture is different. Real Madrid are arguably the biggest in the world, but PSG are one of the top. There are two different ways to live football. I am honored to be part of both clubs."

COMPARISON WITH CRISTIANO RONALDOQuestion: Do you think you can beat Cristiano Ronaldo?

Mbappé: "I don't know how to answer this question. Everyone knows that Ronaldo is a legend at Madrid, a reference. I've only been here a year and a half, he played nine years. I can't compare myself to him; our paths are different. I want to write my own story, but even to be mentioned in the same sentence as Ronaldo is a great honor. My only focus is to continue on my own path, contribute to the team and win every possible trophy."

THIS YEAR'S GOALSQuestion: Champions League, World Cup, Ballon d'Or. What are your goals for this season?

Mbappé: "You know me: I'm competitive. I fight for everything. I can't choose one goal. Yes, it will be difficult, but I want to do my best in every tournament, I want to win every trophy, I'm not going to put anyone forward."

"YOU CAN NEVER BE 100%"Question: For 90 minutes, how do you stay so concentrated and perform to the maximum?

Mbappé: "You can never give 100 percent. I don't even think about it. There's always something that limits you, but that's no excuse. My goal is to always give my best. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's difficult. But you have to give your best every time. That is the goal."

WORKING WITH XABI ALONSOQuestion: What do you think about your role and your relationship with Xabi Alonso?

Mbappé: "I have worked with many coaches, each one has a different philosophy. Xabi is different from Ancelotti; he has his own style. Since the beginning of the season, since the Club World Cup, you can see our improvement on the pitch. There are still shortcomings, yes. We haven't won any trophies yet, but we are on the right track. We are moving forward and aiming for every championship."

"NO NUMBER TARGET"Question: You scored 31 goals in the league and 44 in total. Have you set yourself a goal target this season?

Mbappé: "No, I never set a number, my only goal is to score at every opportunity and help the team. The more goals I score, the more trophies we win. The important thing for me is to contribute to the team, with goals or otherwise. I will continue to do that."
