Billy Vigar, who came through Arsenal’s youth academy, experienced a horrific accident in the match played last weekend between Chichester City and Wingate & Finchley. While trying to keep the ball in play, the young footballer hit a concrete wall and was seriously injured. The match was immediately stopped, and medical teams quickly reached the pitch.

In a statement made by the club on Thursday evening, the words of Vigar’s family were included. According to the statement, the 21-year-old player suffered a severe brain trauma after the collision and was placed in an induced coma. He underwent surgery on Tuesday to increase the chance of recovery. However, despite all interventions, he passed away on Thursday morning due to his severe injuries.

“He passed away doing the sport he loved” 

The family made the following statement: “Billy suffered a serious brain injury last Saturday. Although he underwent surgery on Tuesday, the injury was too severe, and he passed away on the morning of September 25. The messages of support we’ve received from day one show how loved Billy was in the football world. Losing him while playing the game he loved has devastated our family.” Trained at Arsenal Academy Although Billy Vigar never played for Arsenal’s first team, he regularly featured at U18 and Premier League 2 levels. In the 2021–22 U18 Premier League season, he recorded four goals and two assists. Starting football at the age of 14 in Arsenal’s academy, Vigar signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2022. He transferred to Chichester City last summer.
