Tigers sideline Gleyber Torres: All-Star second Baseman heads to il

Gleyber Torres has been placed on the 10-day injured list by the Detroit Tigers following a strain to his left oblique.

The move is retroactive to Monday, as the 29-year-old infielder continued to experience pain while swinging despite showing some progress recently.

Manager A.J. Hinch described the injury as a "mild" strain but noted that the situation had become stagnant, requiring formal treatment time.

Torres was unable to serve as a pinch hitter in recent games, leading the team to decide against pushing his recovery at this stage. In his ninth MLB season, Torres is batting .259 with two home runs and 11 RBIs across 32 games for the Detroit Tigers.

The three-time All-Star expressed hope for a quick return, stating he aims to begin a rehab assignment in five days rather than weeks. Jace Jung has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move to fill the roster spot left vacant by Torres' absence.

Torres holds a career .264 batting average with 156 home runs and 526 RBIs over his career with the Tigers and New York Yankees.
