Raptors Officially Reacquire Kawhi Leonard

The Toronto Raptors have officially completed the Kawhi Leonard trade after the NBA’s investigation concluded.

The deal had been paused since July while the league investigated Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers for salary cap circumvention. Toronto sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two future first-round picks, one first-round pick swap, and two second-round picks to the Clippers.

The NBA’s investigation resulted in the Clippers losing five first-round draft picks, receiving a $30 million fine, and owner Steve Ballmer being suspended for one year. Kawhi Leonard was also fined $700,000 and accepted responsibility for lapses in judgment within his inner circle.

Ballmer has since confirmed the Clippers will comply with the NBA’s penalties and move forward. Leonard averaged a career-high 27.9 points last season and finished seventh in MVP voting.

Raptors GM Bobby Webster welcomed Leonard back, saying his championship mentality and impact on Toronto are undeniable.
