Liverpool Strengthen Injury-Hit Defence with Ronald Araujo Loan

The deal reportedly includes an option for Liverpool to buy the 27-year-old for around £47 million. Liverpool are dealing with several defensive injuries, including Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, leaving Virgil van Dijk as their only fully fit senior centre-back.

Araujo can play both centre-back and right-back, giving Liverpool additional options in two positions where the squad is currently short. Araujo joined Barcelona in 2018 and has won three LaLiga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and three Spanish Super Cups. He made only 11 league starts last season, with Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin preferred in central defence.

Araujo said he believes joining Liverpool was the right move at the right time in his career. Liverpool also face injuries at right-back, with Conor Bradley still recovering from a knee injury. The club will begin the new Premier League season away against Newcastle United on August 23.
