Lions Make Jahmyr Gibbs Highest-Paid Running Back with New Extension

The Detroit Lions have agreed to a three-year contract extension with star running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

The deal is worth $67.5 million, with a maximum value of $75.75 million through incentives, including $51.5 million guaranteed. The new agreement makes the 24-year-old Gibbs the highest-paid running back in NFL history based on total contract value and average annual salary.

Gibbs returned to the practice field during training camp on Thursday, signaling that a new contract was close to being finalized. Lions General Manager Brad Holmes had recently confirmed that the team was actively working on a long-term extension with the standout running back.

Entering his fourth NFL season, Gibbs has totaled 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 touchdowns in 49 career games.

Last season, he started all 17 games, rushing for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns, while also recording career highs with 77 receptions, 616 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns.
