Herrington credits his World Cup selection to his extensive playing time in the United States, having played every single minute of all 15 games for the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer this year.
The Brisbane-born defender made his senior international debut in March and is relying on the support of veteran teammates like goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, alongside his parents who are traveling to Vancouver.
In stark contrast to Herrington's quick rise, Jason Geria's international career has been a slow burn, with the 33-year-old right back making the final 26-man roster after years of persistence.
Geria was first capped by former Australia coach Ange Postecoglou back in 2016 but missed out on selection for both the 2018 and 2022 editions of the World Cup before working his way back.

His international resurgence came under head coach Tony Popovic, who took over the Socceroos in late 2024 and gave Geria his second career cap a full eight years after his first appearance.
Australia will officially launch their World Cup campaign on June 13, with the Socceroos scheduled to play their opening match of the tournament against Turkey in Vancouver.
