FIFA bans reusable bottles at World Cup venues citing safety concerns

The updated security code became effective on Tuesday, extending the existing ban on items like standard bottles, cups, jars, and cans to completely eliminate the risk of injuries caused by thrown objects. FIFA stated its commitment to protecting the health and safety of all players, referees, fans, volunteers, and staff members, noting that outside bottles are already prohibited at several of the selected venues.

The unexpected policy change has raised immediate concerns among supporters regarding how they will cope with the heat, with temperatures at several venues expected to reach between 26 and 28°C.
Fans have also raised questions about accessibility to drinking water, prompting FIFA to assure the public that specific heat mitigation measures will be firmly in place across all host locations. Host cities will deploy various cooling resources around the stadium footprints, working alongside local authorities to provide misting stations, fans, hydration stations, and cooling tents for traveling fans.
Water pricing inside the stadiums will remain capped at standard rates, with FIFA confirming that the cost of water bottles will be consistent with other regular events held at each specific venue. The expanded 48-team World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and featuring a record 104 matches including an additional knockout round.
