Djokovic Stunned in US Open First Round
Novak Djokovic suffered a shocking first-round exit at the US Open after losing to Argentina’s Mariano Navone.
Navone defeated the 24-time Grand Slam champion 7–6, 5–7, 6–4, 2–6, 6–1 in the biggest win of his career. It marks Djokovic’s earliest Grand Slam exit since the 2006 Australian Open.

The 39-year-old battled shoulder and back injuries, and even vomited during the match before fading in the fifth set. Djokovic had entered the tournament chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title. Former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev advanced comfortably with a straight-sets win over Hugo Gaston. American star Jessica Pegula also reached the second round after defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6–3, 6–2.
Elsewhere, Sofia Kenin, Jasmine Paolini, Elina Svitolina, and Jiri Lehecka all progressed to the next round. The 2026 US Open features a record $108 million prize pool, the largest in tennis history.
