Chelsea Sign England's Morgan Rogers From Aston Villa in Record British Deal

Chelsea have officially signed England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa on a long-term contract running until 2033.

British media reports value the transfer package at £117 million ($157 million), making Rogers the most expensive British player in football history. Sky Sports reported the fee surpasses the £116 million deal Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson earlier this month.

This transfer also breaks Chelsea's previous record signing of Moises Caicedo, who was acquired from Brighton for £115 million in 2023. Rogers expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, calling them the biggest club in London and praising the direction under the new manager.

The 23-year-old winger and attacking midfielder leaves Aston Villa after a successful two-year spell following his transfer from Middlesbrough in 2024. Rogers scored 31 goals in 125 total appearances for Villa, enjoying his best domestic campaign last season with 10 Premier League goals.

He helped Villa win the Europa League in May by scoring in the 3-0 final victory over Freiburg to claim the club's first major European trophy since 1982. On the international stage, Rogers made his England debut in 2024 and featured in seven of eight matches as England finished third at the World Cup.
