Chelsea & Fulham Advance in the League Cup

It was Xabi Alonso’s first competitive home victory as Chelsea head coach at Stamford Bridge. New signing Danny Welbeck scored on his debut, heading home Malo Gusto’s cross early in the second half.

Chelsea dominated possession, while Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and Reece James all started. The second goal came after Estevão’s dangerous run, with the effort officially recorded as a Hakeem Odoffin own goal.

Chelsea will face Leeds United in the third round. Fulham also advanced with a convincing 3–0 win over AFC Wimbledon. Goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Rodrigo Muniz, and Gonzalo García secured Fulham’s first victory under new manager Álvaro Arbeloa. Fulham will now take on West Ham in the next round.
