Australia claims third straight SailGP victory after tense New York final

Australia secured their third straight SailGP event win after a dramatic, down-to-the-wire final on the Hudson River, marking their fourth victory from six events held this season.

Tom Slingsby's crew extended their lead in the championship standings, moving to 55 points total to hold an 11-point advantage over their closest rivals, Emirates GBR. Spain's Los Gallos suffered a highly frustrating weekend, slipping to fourth place in the overall standings on 34 points after hydraulic problems prevented Diego Botin's crew from starting Sunday's second fleet race.

Emirates GBR opened Sunday's action by winning the first fleet race, while the home crowd was delighted when the United States team bounced back to claim victory in the second race. A chaotic start-line collision disrupted the final fleet race, involving the United States, Red Bull Italy, and Mubadala Brazil, which led to the American team being disqualified from the heat.

The collision opened the door for Canada to join the podium race, sending Australia, Emirates GBR, and NorthStar Canada through to compete in the three-boat final. Australia overcame a damaged rudder and a poor ninth-place finish in the day's opening race, rebounding with second and third-place finishes before reclaiming the lead from the British boat in the final meters.
