'Turkey was a huge disappointment'—Carlos Dunga Criticizes World Cup Performance: 'They Need to Prepare Better'

Carlos Dunga, one of the legends of Brazilian soccer, touched on the performance of our national soccer team while discussing the 2026 World Cup.

Dunga answered questions from an AA reporter at the New York-New Jersey Stadium, which will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

'SOCCER HAS CHANGED THINGS'

Comparing the 1994 World Cup, which Brazil won, to the 2026 World Cup, Dunga highlighted differences such as high temperatures, water breaks, and the right to make substitutions during the tournament.

Dunga said, “Whether the temperature is very high or not, soccer has changed things. Because up to five players can be substituted at once, and the game is paused every 25 minutes.”

"SPAIN AND FRANCE ARE THE FAVORITES"

Dunga, one of the legends of world soccer, said that Spain and France stand out among the favorites to win the 2026 championship.

Dunga said, “There are very strong teams like Spain and France. Argentina isn’t quite as strong, but I always give them a chance.”

Commenting on the close following of Brazilian soccer in Turkey, Dunga said, “Turks really love Brazilians, and I’m very happy about that. I’ve witnessed this firsthand in Turkey.”

Regarding the Turkish National Team’s early exit from the tournament, Dunga remarked, “When expectations are very high, there’s great disappointment. But over time, these feelings fade.”

Dunga also offered advice to the Turkish national team regarding future tournaments, saying, “Turkey needs to prepare better for the next World Cup.”
