Rick van Drongelen has officially joined Panathinaikos! A massive windfall for Samsunspor
Samsunspor's Dutch center back, Rick van Drongelen, has transferred to Panathinaikos. The Black Sea club received 5 million euros from this transfer. The 27-year-old player had been linked with Trabzonspor.
Dutch center back Rick van Drongelen, whom Samsunspor signed from Union Berlin for 200,000 euros in the summer of 2023, has transferred to Greece’s Panathinaikos for a 5 million euro transfer fee. The 27-year-old soccer player has signed a four-year contract with his new club.

WHILE TRABZONSPOR...
Samsunspor President Yüksel Yıldırım had stated that negotiations regarding the transfer of Trabzonspor’s Dutch center back Rick Van Drongelen could be concluded shortly. However, the Bordo-Mavililer had withdrawn from the transfer.
It emerged during a Clubs Association meeting that officials from both clubs had discussed the player’s situation, and that Trabzonspor had sought to learn about Samsunspor’s approach regarding Van Drongelen.
MOST EXPENSIVE SALE
Last season, during the mid-season transfer window, Fenerbahçe paid Anthony Musaba’s 5 million euro buyout clause, marking the Black Sea club’s most expensive player sale. Rick Van Drongelen’s transfer for the same amount tied that record. The Red-and-Whites had also sent their legendary striker Serkan Aykut to Galatasaray for 5 million euros during the 2000–01 season.
