Residents living near World Cup stadiums have hit the jackpot

The 2026 World Cup has also created a new source of income for residents of the host cities. People living near the stadiums are renting out their home parking spaces and yards as parking lots for fans arriving by car to watch the matches.

While illegal parking fees range from $50 to $100 during group stage matches and subsequent rounds, they are expected to range from $300 to $500 for the final in New York, depending on proximity to the stadium.

Ahead of the matches in Los Angeles, signs offering parking were seen hanging in the front yards of many homes around the stadium. Homeowners practically competed with their signs to attract passing cars to their parking spaces.

A homeowner named Norie, who lives near the Los Angeles Stadium, said, “Match days are always good for us. A lot of fans come here. That’s great for our neighbors and for us. It’s very hard to find a parking spot at the stadium, so we provide it at an affordable price. Fans are looking for cheaper parking. You can park your car at the stadium for $100. This way, it’s a win-win for everyone.”

Another homeowner, Neno Emmanuel, said, “The stadium where the World Cup matches are being played is very close to our home. We offer parking here for $50. We can park 20 cars in our yard.”
