Diego Forlán has been named head coach of the Uruguay national team
In Uruguay, one of the countries that suffered a disappointment at the 2026 World Cup, Diego Forlán has been appointed to fill the head coaching position vacated by Marcelo Bielsa.
The Uruguayan Football Federation announced that Diego Forlán is the new head coach of the national team. In Uruguay, which suffered a disappointing performance at the 2026 World Cup, legendary head coach Marcelo Bielsa had resigned from his position. Following Bielsa—whose issues with the players had become public—the team has brought in the legendary striker Forlán to take the helm.

HE TURNED DOWN GALATASARAY
The 47-year-old Forlán will take on an interim role with the national team. Forlán, who made 112 appearances for his country and retired from soccer in 2019, previously played for clubs including Manchester United, Atlético Madrid, and Inter.
During his playing career, Forlan came very close to signing with Galatasaray; however, although the Yellow-and-Red club reported the transfer to KAP, the deal was never finalized.
