In Game 5 of the NBA Finals, the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90, taking a 4-1 lead in the series and winning their first NBA championship in 53 years.

The New York Knicks won the NBA championship for the first time in 53 years. The New York Knicks won Game 5 of the series, played at the San Antonio Spurs’ home arena, the Frost Bank Center, and closed out the series 4-1 to claim their third championship since 1970 and 1973.

The New York Knicks got off to a slow start, scoring only 13 points in the first quarter, but closed a 15-point gap in the second quarter to go into halftime trailing by 5 points. Although they narrowed the gap at times in the third quarter, they couldn’t prevent San Antonio from taking a 15-point lead at one point.
Coming back from a 10-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter, the Knicks didn’t allow San Antonio many scoring opportunities for a long time. Under increasing pressure, the Spurs couldn’t even score from easy positions.
The Knicks played exceptionally well in the final stretch, winning the game and the series to end their championship drought. By also winning the NBA Cup this year, the New York Knicks became the first team in league history to achieve the double.
